Pinecone Pathways Program Kick-off

  • Various Parks & Recreation Sites (map)

North Carolina’s largest county-wide scavenger hunt is back. The Pinecone Pathways Program will take place throughout Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen from March 20 through April 22. In 2026, the Convention and Visitors Bureau is partnering again with the skilled glass artists at Starworks in Star, NC to produce 100 vibrant glass pinecones. These handcrafted pieces will be placed along trails across Moore County for six weeks, beginning on the first day of spring, March 20, and continuing through Earth Day on April 22.

This year, 25 of the pinecones will showcase patriotic red, white, and blue designs in celebration of America 250. Anyone who discovers one of these special-edition pinecones will qualify for an additional grand prize opportunity.

Grand prize details: Participants who locate a glass pinecone can register it online to be entered into a drawing for a prize package that includes a two-night stay at Courtyard by Marriott, a $50 gift card to River Jack Outdoor Trading, and a $50 gift card to Mason’s Restaurant & Grocery.

Red, white, and blue pinecone grand prize: In addition to a two-night stay at Courtyard by Marriott and a $50 gift card to River Jack Outdoor Trading, winners will receive a $50 gift card to Brad Halling American Whiskey Ko., a complimentary tour and tasting at Brad Halling American Whiskey Ko., two tickets to the Sandhills Celebrates America event (date to be announced), and a commemorative America 250 flag.

Good luck and enjoy the search.
