From Pinehurst to Raleigh: A Local Mom’s Guide to Area Farmers Markets
If you’re looking to shop local and soak up some fresh air with the kids, Moore County has some great farmers market options throughout the week — especially midweek and weekends! Some markets run year-round, while others officially kick back off in mid-March. Keep reading to see where to head and when to go!
Wednesdays:
On Wednesdays from 3–6pm, the Sandhills Farmers Market sets up at Village Green in Pinehurst, offering a charming afternoon market perfect for a post-school stroll. Opening Day: mid-April.
Thursdays:
Thursdays are for the Moore County Farmers Market, held at the Armory (604 W. Morganton Road) in Southern Pines. Open year-round from 9am–1pm, this market is a dependable option no matter the season. That said, there tend to be fewer vendors on Thursdays and popular items can sell out quickly — so arriving early is your best bet. Parking is decent, but the setup is a bit less family-friendly compared to the Saturday markets.
Saturdays:
When the weekend rolls around, you have options! From April through October, the Moore County Farmers Market pops up on Saturdays from 8am–12pm at SE Broad Street & NY Avenue in Southern Pines. One of the sweetest parts of the Southern Pines Saturday market? The atmosphere. The Moore County Farmers Market often features live music, plus kid-friendly touches like lemonade stands, hula hoops, and space for little ones to move around while you shop. It feels less like an errand and more like a Saturday morning outing. Opening Day: March 14th.
Also on Saturdays (April–September), the Sandhills Farmers Market runs from 10am–1pm in Pinehurst. Opening Day: mid-April.
If you’re open to a short drive, there are even more options nearby. Every Saturday starting in April, the Sanford Farmers Market brings fresh finds to Lee County.
sundays:
Beginning in March, the first and third Sundays of each month features a farmers market at James Creek Cider House, which makes for a fun, relaxed outing. And if you really want to make a day of it, the North Carolina State Farmers Market in Raleigh is open every single day of the year (M-Sat 5am-7pm and Sun 8am-5pm) with tons of vendors and one of the largest selections in the state.
Whether you’re planning a quick produce run, meeting friends for a morning meet-up, or teaching your littles where their food comes from, farmers markets around Moore County (and beyond!) make it easy — and fun — to shop local. 🌽🥕
