The Treehouse Is Coming to Moore County — And It All Started in a Daycare Parking Lot
Some of the best ideas don't start in conference rooms. They start in the daycare parking lot.
For The Treehouse NC, that’s exactly where this idea began, in a daycare parking lot between three local moms, moms who kept finding themselves asking the same question:
Why isn't there a place like this here?
Leslie, Corey, and Molly met through their children and quickly realized families needed more options for active, indoor play—especially a space that worked for a wide range of ages and didn't leave parents feeling exhausted the minute they walked through the door.
The idea first surfaced in the winter of 2024 and then every few weeks, one of them would ask, "Are we actually going to do this?" Eventually, the answer became yes.
By January 2025, they were working with a realtor and actively searching for a location.
Finding the right building proved to be one of the biggest challenges. The vision always included trampolines and large-scale active play, but nearly every building they toured had ceilings that were too low to make it work. More than once, they found themselves close to signing a lease only to have the opportunity fall through.
They credit the team at Everything Pines for helping them stay the course and continue searching until the right space finally came along.
And when it did, it opened the door to creating exactly what they had envisioned.
More Than Just Another Indoor Playground
Treehouse is being designed as a place where kids can be active, adventurous, and engaged without feeling overstimulated.
Their tagline, "Where the Wild Things Play," reflects the heart of the project.
The team is intentionally leaning into a nostalgic, outdoor-inspired feel. Think tree forts, summer camp, and the kind of childhood many millennials remember—lots of movement, imagination, and freedom to play.
The goal isn't flashing lights and sensory overload. It's creating an environment where kids can run, climb, jump, and explore while parents feel comfortable and relaxed.
Filling a Gap for Local Families
One of the biggest needs the founders saw was the lack of options for older children.
Many indoor play spaces naturally cater to toddlers, but Treehouse is being designed with a broader age range in mind. The space will include dedicated toddler areas, sections for bigger kids, and opportunities for siblings of different ages to enjoy the space together.
While the recommended age range will be approximately 1–13 years old, the founders believe many older children will enjoy the activities as well.
"We wanted somewhere families could meet for playdates that wasn't always someone's house," they explained.
What Families Can Expect
When complete, Treehouse will occupy approximately 14,000 square feet with the high ceilings needed to support larger play features.
Plans currently include:
Trampolines
Slides
Climbing structures
Ball pits
Swings
Ninja-style obstacle elements
Dedicated toddler and big-kid zones
The team is also exploring group classes, homeschool programming, sensory-friendly offerings, holiday events, and seasonal programming.
Unlike many play spaces, Treehouse is being designed with both children and parents in mind. They are intentionally creating sightlines that allow caregivers to supervise multiple children at once and are planning amenities like a nursing and feeding room and accessible spaces throughout the facility.
There will also be a mezzanine area where parents may be able to work or relax while older children play.
Built by Local Moms
Each founder brings a different perspective to the project.
Leslie grew up in Southern Pines before returning to the area. Corey relocated from Raleigh in 2018 with her family. Molly moved to Moore County in 2022 as a military spouse and plans to return even after an upcoming PCS.
Together, they share a common goal: creating the kind of place they wish existed when they were navigating early motherhood.
A place where kids can be active.
A place where parents can connect.
And a place families can decide to visit on a whim when they simply need to get out of the house.
Opening Timeline
Treehouse is currently in the construction phase, with engineering plans completed and measurements underway.
While construction timelines can always shift, the team is targeting a winter opening and hopes to welcome families through the doors later this year.
For now, they're focused on building a space that fills a real need in Moore County—a place where kids can play, parents can breathe, and families can spend time together.
We'll be sharing updates as construction progresses and look for a sneak peek and soft opening with MoCo Mom x The Treehouse NC prior to their grand opening.
